Some of the other reviewers have mentioned that they only use it as a backup clock because it doesn't plug into the wall and its only power source is a AA battery. But for the price of some of the other clocks I may have well just bought a new cell phone. I looked at some fancier options like the wooden digital clocks because I'm an adult now and should have something more modern looking. If anything could have woken a teenager from a dead sleep at 6:30 in the morning to get ready for school, it was this clock. I ordered this alarm clock because I used to have a gold one exactly like it when I was a kid and remember the 'wake the dead' bell vividly. Because of this, it has become an unreliable source of an alarm, since most of the time it's low or dead when I wake up in the morning. I let the battery in the phone get to 0% and replace it with one that's fully charged. I have used my cell phone as an alarm clock for years, but recently the phone I have has lost all its charging properties, so I have to have 3 different batteries and have one backup, one in the phone discharging, and one on a wall charger at all times. However, if you're the type of heavy sleeper that can sleep through literal fire alarms ringing throughout a dorm hall, for example, buy the Sonic Boom. The Sonic Boom is pricier, so if you're just looking for something simple and loud, I would stick with this Sharp Analog clock. Additionally, if the Sharp Analog clock somehow isn't loud enough for you, the Sonic Boom boasts 102db (not sure about the accuracy of this, but I do know it's crazy loud). This is a good option if you share a room and don't want to wake the other person up. Side note: If you're looking for a less intrusive alarm that can definitely wake you up without sound, there's the Sonic Boom (Amazon link: Sonic Alert SBJ525ss Sonic Bomb Jr., Black/Red ), which shakes your bed very violently to get you up. I'm not sure why, but this never bothered me. nine on the dot), it rings more precisely than when set for an interval in between. This doesn't really bother me, and I find that if you set it for an exact time (e.g. You can see that more clearly in the video. If you were to set it for 3:30, it may ring a little past three. One problematic aspect is that the alarm doesn't ring exactly at the exact time you set it for. One plus is that there are no lights emitting from this clock, as found in your typical digital alarm clock. At night, when everything is still and quiet, it is more obvious. It's not very loud, and I don't notice the sound in the daytime. There is also an audible ticking sound with the clock, but I find that soothing rather than annoying. This was probably an indication that the battery needed to be replaced soon. The backlight grew dimmer and dimmer as time went on too, to the point where, just last month, it didn't work at all. Some things to note for the long term: I don't know if I'm crazy, but I feel as if the alarm got a little less loud as time went on, but it was still plenty loud. Traditional alarm clocks are not nearly as loud or irritating as this is, which is a must if you're trying to get up at a certain time and don't want to accidentally sleep through your alarm. I've used several alarm clocks throughout my life, but this is by far one of the loudest I've used. Because of this, I've been using it only as a backup alarm set ten minutes after my phone alarm. My roommate hates the alarm, though (as it wakes her up, as well). This is definitely enough to wake a moderate to heavy sleeper up. I was satisfied enough with the clock that I ordered a new one, despite the clock being priced up to a whole $16.90! That's more than double what I paid when I originally bought the clock, so I did knock off a star for that. This caused the battery to leak and caused the clock to stop working. However, I recently switched to a college dorm and accidentally kicked my alarm clock down about four feet onto a hard tiled floor. I've dropped the alarm clock from my nightstand about a dozen times in the two years I've had it, and it's held up fine. Never had to change the battery either, so a little goes a long way. Batteries aren't included, so I did put in one AA battery when I received the clock two years ago. I bought this alarm clock for $7.88 two years ago. I would read the updated review below for more clear and detailed information. I also uploaded a quick video displaying the physical features of the clock. I used to have trouble waking up on time but not anymore.~ It's very loud and wakes up the entire household if it rings for long enough. It's inexpensive but does a good job in waking me up. ~It looks vintage and just like it does in the picture.
